iGuidU App Review
To all of the iPhone-using explorers of the world, I hope you have $2, because I’ve gotten my hands on a goldmine. Tour guide application, iGuidU led me around the streets of Ann Arbor, and told me everything it could about the University of Michigan campus.
About the Application
iGuidU is a GPS based tour guide application. It’s purpose is to be a fast and cheap personal tour guide, without having to wait on groups or buses like you do with real tour guides. When you reach a POI (Point of Interest), a little balloon pops up over your location. When you tap on the balloon, a picture of the location opens up with information about the POI you’re at, and includes a Wikipedia link at the bottom of the page. But, where does iGuidU get the information? iGuidU gets it’s information for it’s 520,000 POI Database from Wikipedia.
Speed and Reliability
I can’t really say much about the 3G experiences, but the application is very fast on U of M’s hard to find wi-fi networks. The application has never crashed on me, and POI (Point of Interest) data downloads very quickly. The pictures might be fuzzy or pixelated for about a second, but then become crisp and clear. The application runs well in iOS 4.3 when it comes to multitasking. I haven’t seen my device slow down or become laggy when using iGuidU in the background, and the application opens back up to what you were doing without having to reload everything. As long as you have data, you have the world’s landmarks in the palm of your hand.
